EU FUNDS €600,000 INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE GIRLS’ RIGHTS IN KARAMOJA

At the end of last year, AAIU received a three-year grant from the European Union of €600,000 (Six hundred thousand euro) to implement the Ending Harmful Practices and Promoting Adolescent Girls’ Rights project in Karamoja.
AAIU is carrying out this project in the districts of Amudat and Nakapiripirit, collaborating with local government, education and health teams, civil society, religious and cultural leaders, along with the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.
While announcing the award, Xavier Ejoyi, the AAIU Country Director noted that “the three-year award is another step in our collective efforts in deepening and improving AAIU’s financial sustainability to enable us to achieve our strategic program and organizational priorities.”
The project began this year with an inception meeting in Kampala, followed by another in Nakapiripirit. This meeting clarified the project’s details and expectations.
Activities have commenced within the two districts. Some of them include, health outreaches, GBV response services, intergenerational and community dialogues and engagement of cultural and community leaders.
